Cross-Site Sharing

Cross-Site Sharing Image

Many of the content types within CHSSWeb can be shared across sites. The system provides tools for easy sharing of this content, tools for asking others to display the content, and a simple set of rules for who controls an item's contents and its display on sites.

The content types that can be displayed across sites are:

  • Articles
  • Events
  • People
  • Programs
  • Courses
  • Course Sections
  • Student and Alumni Profiles
  • Content Blocks
  • Link and Document Resources

Each piece of content is owned by a single site. Only that site's editors can change that content but any CHSSWeb editor can choose to display any piece of shared content on their sites. For instance, an article owned by the English site may only be modified by the editors of the English site, but it may be added to or removed from any site by that site's editors.

On editing pages (and on some list pages) for sharable content, look for a gear icon. Click that icon for an item and you will see a list of the sites with which you can associate the item. Check the relevant boxes and click the "save changes" button. The item will now appear on the sites you have chosen.

See the individual content types for additional features and rules such as the "feature to homepage" aspect of articles and events.

Sharing With Other Editors

The content messaging tool makes it easy for you to let the editors of other sites know about your articles and events.

Content sharing button on edit form

To use it, look in the right-hand column when editing an article or event, You will see a button labeled "Notify Other Editors." Click it and you will see a list of sites with checkboxes. Click on one or more sites on which your item is not already featured, add an optional message, and click the send button at the bottom of the list.

Sending a content message

The content messages alert box appears just below your photo and the active site selection tool in the left-hand column. Clicking on that box will take you to a list of your messages. For each message, you can click on "feature" to add the content to your site and mark it as featured--all in one click. Or you can decline the invitation with one click.

We hope this makes it easier for you to get the word out about your articles and your events.
