Turbo User Interface

CHSSWeb

We have released the first in a series of enhancements to the editor user interface. Available on articles and courses now, these changes speed up and improve common tools like filtering, sorting and searching for content. In the coming months we will continue to roll out these improvements and additional enhancements across the editing tools. Log in and give them a try!

Turbo Filtering

The main index pages for key content types like articles, events and people all include a filtering bar at the top. This bar is used for filtering down content on your current site or seeing content available on other sites in the system. Previously, each filter action required a page reload and a bunch of "behind the scenes" work. If you do a lot of filtering, those extra seconds really add up. Now, on articles, any filtering happens without a new page load and is almost instantaneous.

Live Search

We have a couple different ways to search for content in the admin part of CHSSWeb, namely, the full content search located at the very top of the admin pages and the item specific search. Previously, the item specific search took you to a new page that displayed your search results. From there, you could click on an item and navigate to a page where you could perform various actions based on your permissions for that content. That's a lot of clicks! On articles, we have replaced this item specific search with a live search bar. Just type the title of an article and the search checks all the articles in the system and filters down the list of articles to show only those that fit your search. No new page reloads or extra clicks! We think this will be especially helpful when searching for an article you want to associate with your site. The full content search will still be available at the top of the page.

New Paging

This change is more subtle. We have changed the paging tools and re-written their usage behind the scenes to provide a faster experience when clicking through each page of items. Also available on articles and courses, each page link loads content slightly differently than before to provide a faster, smoother experience.

We are introducing these changes with little visual impact on the existing tools to help avoid that "why did they move everything to different aisles of the grocery store" feeling. We hope these changes will provide an improved experience with very little learning curve. We will provide updates like this one as we continue to roll out these new features. Please reach out if you have questions or feedback.
