Newsletter Analytics and Tracking

The CHSSWeb Newsletter tool provides two ways to track engagement with your newsletter issues.

Issue Content Clicks

Each article or event that you associate with your newsletter issue has a built in click counter. If you use the same article or event in multiple newsletter issues, each use of the article or event will receive its own counter. The counters increment for views from the web or email contexts of your newsletter issue. They do not increment with the content is clicked from within the CHSSWeb tools. To view your click data:

  • From the admin tools, navigation to the newsletter issue you are working with.
  • View the click counts on the right-hand side of each article or event associated with your newsletter issue

Note: This method for tracking engagement was added on 11/15/25. Only newsletter issues published after this date will display full click counts.  

Google Analytics

You can also use Google Analytics to track engagement with our content that lives within CHSSWeb.

When you add an article or event with content internal to the CHSSWeb system to your newsletter, the links to that content in your newsletter will have the following campaign parameters added to them automatically:

utm_source: the newsletter name

utm_medium: "mail" if the link is clicked from email and "site" if the link is clicked from the website version of the newsletter

utm_campaign: the newsletter name and issue date

These values can be tracked in your site's Google Analytics account.
